Steam mixed with water is conveyed from wells through collection pipes to a separation station where the water phase is separated from the steam phase. From the separation station, steam and water proceed to a power plant by separate pipes. The steam is conveyed to steam turbines where electricity is generated. Each turbine produces for example 30 MW of electricity (MWe). At the downstream side of a turbine, condensers can be used to preheat cold water for district heating purposes.
